Shortcut To An Authentic Australian Accent

25 August 2011

I wanted to post but I had nothing good to say. My homie George (who I’ve been drinking with all day) suggested I let you all know about this cool trick: if you replace the letter “o” with the letter “i” in most words, you sound totally Australian!

Take the word “rope” for example. Switch the “o” out for an “i” and give it that Aussie twang, so when you say “ripe” you sound MAD AUSTRALIAN!

George, the keeper of this excellent secret, is one half of a really cool group called Javelin. You can check out their music and videos and music videos here.

NY Ren Fair

22 August 2011

This mixtape of new NY rap was assembled by the good people at Associated Minds, a music collective/record label based across the pond in the U.K. The mix features several Shark tracks, along with music from a bunch of Shark homies too. Pretty cool.

You can listen on Mixcloud, or download the podcast on itunes.

Snafu’s Ingrown Fingernail

11 August 2011

I emailed Snafu asking him to send me some stuff for the blog. He sent me back a bunch of pictures of his ingrown fingernail. So yeah, here we go…

I wrote him back to clarify whether or not he wanted me to post these. I waited about 2 minutes and then I decided that I wanted to post them anyway. This gauzy one is terrible. But wait, the next one’s way worse…

Oozy Oozebourne. Digit custard. Sorry everybody!

I Sold Wood In The Hood…

10 August 2011

Tone Tank was captured in this superfly wood cutout by NYC artist and Shark homegirl Z Behl, as part of her Wooden Army installation in San Francisco’s Bluxome Point gallery. Pretty fucking cool. Also featured in the installation are wooden versions of Kray, Safe, and (music video director) Paul Korzan, among others.

You can see more of the Wooden Army and more of Z Behl’s work here.

To Whom This May Or May Not Concern…

4 August 2011

A classic track (from waaaay back in 2005) from New Rap Order representative King Guttah 1st. When this beat dropped through the speakers, folks would literally bum rush the stage to hop up and rap along. I know cause I used to do it too.

Junk Science by Jeru Gabriel

Happy Monday yall.

You’re Alright, Kid

26 July 2011

“You’re Alright, Kid” is a documentary short about me (Michaelangelo Tumbarello aka Baje One) that was directed, shot, and edited by Reuben Atlas. It captures me around the time when I started Modern Shark and when me and Snaf released “A Miraculous Kind Of Machine”.

I have to be honest that even though I rap about myself all the time, and I put myself out there all the time, I still feel a little funny about being the subject of a documentary. When you rap, you kinda create your own narrative for who you are, you’re in control. I guess it can be hard to let go and allow yourself to see yourself the way that someone else sees you. (That sentence sounds mad confusing, but it makes sense).

Reuben Atlas is currently making a feature-length documentary film about The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble. I’ve seen some of the footage and I know that it’s going to be amazing. Check out the film’s website for more info and a beautiful teaser. And stay updated by liking the film on facebook.
