‘SUMMERTIME’ is a free producer project from the homie Batsauce constructed entirely from versions of Gershwin’s classic song ‘Summertime’. The full project (due out in a few weeks) will feature special guests Mr. Lif, Mass Influence, Dillon, Qwazaar, Lady Daisey, Baje One (of Junk Science), Chop, and Wynton Kelly Stevenson. Batsauce is the producer behind some super-fresh music, including The Smile Rays and Lady Daisey, and will also be releasing a FREE EP with yours truly (Baje One) later this summer.

This two-song preview includes my song about being a little kid and riding bikes to chinatown to buy fireworks in the early 90′s, and Dillon’s love letter to ‘A Lady Named Summer.’

Instant Cities is Eamon Hamill, once of Hoboken, now of Prague, who makes music with an assemblage of machines which will eventually become sentient and destroy everything good he’s sought to create.

The evolving musical style takes elements from folk, hip-hop, motel-lounge crooning and various electronic genres, and is possibly best described as “those experiments which haven’t  gone wrong”. The lyrics often feature hazy narratives in surreal, half-remembered cityscapes and and joyful rants about the fraying of societal fabrics. The overarching idea behind Instant Cities is to make music that reflects the universal beauty and paranoia of urban places.

Basically, Mikey Shark (Baje One) went to Prague and got Eamon drunk and now “Tender Moments In The Funny Part of Town” and “Coping With Shed Fires” are out on Modern Shark, with other long-titled songs to follow.

SERENGETI & HI-FIDEL are FRIDAY NIGHT – “Saturday Night”

15 June 2010

Ok so maybe you have to have heard Serengeti and Hi-Fidel’s incredible concept project FRIDAY NIGHT for this to make any sense.

But either way it’s a fresh song. Thing is, if you have heard the Friday Night album, then the image of Geti riding in the back of this mini van covered in blood and clutching Kelly’s blood-soaked little purse is pretty damn funny.

Live From The NUK FAM Vaults – “Getting The Band Back Together”

14 June 2010

First off… Fuck YouTube for taking this down in the first place.

Hopefully they won’t figure out that I just re-uploaded the same file from a different account. They said we didn’t have copyright clearance to use Trick Daddy’s song at the end of the video… which is of course crazy since:

1) NOBODY has ANY clearance to use ANYTHING on YouTube.

and

2) Trick Daddy is a dear personal friend. People may not know this, but Trick Daddy used to drive Tone Tank to school. Trick Daddy taught Probe how to fly a kite. When my cat died, Trick Daddy was there to help me bury him under the old magnolia tree. In many ways, Trick Daddy has been less like a trick version of a daddy and more like a real daddy to all of us.

This is a not-so oldie, but a definitive goodie, a true summer jam from waaaaay back in the day: New York City, 2008. When I asked Pete about re-posting this song, he said “This is as summer-y as it gets. And I say ‘boobies’ on the song.”

True story.
