JUNK SCIENCE featured on LimeWire Blog!

9 June 2010

They had some really nice things to say about the album… check it out:

“Brooklyn-based duo Junk Science is on a two-man mission to shatter any and all preconceptions about how hip-hop is supposed to work. When you learn that MC Baje One and DJ Snafu came up on the left-of-center sounds of artists like The Goats and Mad Kap, things come into a bit more focus, but on their third album, A Miraculous Kind of Machine, Junk Science is definitively revealed to be working alongside the likes of Serengeti & Polyphonic, Busdriver, and LMNOP in terms of underground hip-hoppers seeking out new sonic sources. For his part, Snafu so completely transmogrifies the basic ingredients of his tracks that it’s usually tough to tell where they actually started out, but the end results — while consistently propulsive and hypnotic — have little to do with what you’re used to hearing on conventional hip-hop outings. If anything, they’re closer to Nightmares on Wax or Kahn than your usual hip-hop beatmeisters. And Baje One delivers a flow that’s simultaneously thoughtful and unrelenting, never reliant on braggadocio, and never shying away from a sensitive side that’s too often swept under the rug by other rappers. A Miraculous Kind of Machine points a peculiar but powerful way forward for hip-hop.”

Peace To Homeboy Sandman

2 June 2010

If you happened to listen to the Junk Science appearance on WFMU a few weeks back, you woulda heard that me and Snaf were formally introduced to the Elmhurst, Queens MC known as Homebody Sandman.

I have to admit… I’m a jaded motherfucker when it comes to hip hop. These days it seems we all are, at least a little bit. In fact, when the DJ, Billy Jam (who is one of my favorite people by the way), told me there would be other rap types at his show I was like “awww, come on man.” Because most rappers are crazy. Or aggressive, or dangerously insecure, or a magical and terrible mix of all those adjectives. I blame it on the constant self-promotion / self-delusion. Read the rest of this entry »

Modern Shark Signs LL Cool J To Twelve Album Deal!

27 May 2010

Well, not really, but come on… this is so good! This video is worth a view for so many reasons.

1) the lyrics -  ”the ocean is haunted!”

2) watching the video reminded me how goodbad a movie Deep Blue Sea is.

3) watching the video showed me every single death scene from the movie so as to save me the time it would actually take to re-watch Deep Blue Sea.

shout out to Susan Z. Anthony for the putting the kid on.

Finally! It’s been a long time coming, for real. But the wait is over (at least for me and Snafu).

The album is up on Junk Science - A Miraculous Kind Of Machine - The Syllabus , AMAZON, and any and everywhere where fine digital music is sold!

For those of you that prefer tangible goods, you can also get the CD direct from us, or in a store near you.

I would like to offer a sincere and thorough thank you to everyone who pre-ordered the CD. I tried to include as much bonus stuff as possible in every package. And with each trip I took to the post office over the last two weeks I felt profoundly grateful to be here and to be doing what I love. Thank you for that.

For everyone who has ever supported Junk Science and Nuk Fam over the years, I would like to sincerely thank you as well. If you ever sent us an email or came up to us at a show just to say that you like our music, you might not be aware how much that has meant to us, so I will be explicit here: it has meant absolutely everything to us.

Live every week like it’s shark week.

JUNK SCIENCE Featured In The New Yorker!

24 May 2010

“The local hip-hop duo Junk Science is the m.c. Baje One and the d.j. Snafu. The two (whose real names are Michael Angelo Tumbarello and James Luther Christensen) met in high school in Brooklyn during the halcyon days of the Clinton Administration, and they have been trading old-school beats and clever rhymes ever since. They have a tongue-in-cheek attitude and a rewarding, wiser-than-their-years approach. They’re here to celebrate the release of their third album, “A Miraculous Kind of Machine.” With Das Racist, a similarly minded duo (Victor Vazquez and Himanshu Suri) who had a minor hit last summer with “Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell,” in which the names of the fast-food chains serve as both a chorus and a punch line.”
