Off the assembly…built in sweatshops. I remember performing this song with Pete in London in 2006 and that was a very good night. By the way, rumor has it that a deluxe re-iussue of LOST is coming out soon with some never before heard tracks on it. Just saying…

Baje One & J. Howells Werthman “Some More Air”
5 November 2013Made this while procrastinating on a paper for social work school. Couldn’t help myself. Always wanted to do a video for this song. Started one once but never finished because that happens sometimes. The other video was NOTHING like this one at all but we’ll never know because i deleted all the files one day in a fit of digital cleanliness. Oh yeah, this is from me and J. Howells Werthman’s 2010 EP “What’s It Gonna Be?” which came out on a cool vinyl.
Steel Tipped Dove “Slow Down Dove”
28 October 2013Joe Dove is on the move again, this time with an instrumental album for your earballs. That’s not a thing that people say, is it? Earballs? The album is free, but if you want to contribute financially to the cause, he’ll send you the original beats, pre slow down and sprinklage. Please get to downloading.

Various Artists “Newlyweeds OST”
16 September 2013Newlyweeds is a laugh-out-loud ballad of chemical dependency, a coming-of-age romance, a hallucinatory adventure. It’s also the debut feature film from longtime Shark friend and collaborator Shaka King. The Original Sound Track Recordings were all composed by Scott Thorough, who also produced all but one of the rap tracks here. Speaking of which, Cavalier is on here, StarPower is on here, so are Baje & Kray. Download the OST and go see the movie, which stars Amari Cheatom and Trae Harris and co-stars the one and only Tone Tank. Oh, and a bunch of actors from The Wire are also in it. So you basically have no excuse to not see this movie. But first, download the OST here for free, or click the button on the player below that says ‘download’.

Quelle Chris & Cavalier “Old Friend”
25 August 2013I like this. I will be the first to admit that I’m not sure what is “happening” in the narrative here. There is birth, death, baptism, renewal, and a teddy bear. It seems like someone’s dream. Maybe Mu Gadu’s dream (the director). Not sure. I’ll have to ask him. But I like this, and after watching, it occurred to me that it’s totally ok that I’m not sure what is “happening” in the story. Rap videos are by and large very straightforward in terms of imagery. This tendency makes a lot of sense when you consider the fact that so much of rap is also so straightforward in terms of lyrical content. But what do you do when it’s time to make a video for a song like “Old Friend”, a song that explores one of humanity’s most enigmatic, amorphous concepts: Déjà vu? A song with haunting (and familiar, of course) lyrics like “Your face was there” and “We both died at 17 that time”? I guess you go to Uganda and shoot something that looks like this.
Tonight In Brooklyn!
