Cool Calm Pete + Dillon + Paten Locke = Rosie Perez?

9 March 2011

Ok, so my math might be a little off. It’s the name of the song, not a supergroup of rap nerds (but trust me, these 3 would do very well in a rap nerdery nerd-off).

Either way, how did I manage to not see this lo-fi and fun little ditty?

8 March 2011

Baje & J. Howells Werthman Interview In Stereo Subversion

2 March 2011

“After a 20 year friendship, Jesse and Mike — a.k.a. J. Howells Werthman and Baje One (from Junk Science) — finally made their first record together with 2010’s late release, What’s It Gonna Be? And if you’ve heard the results, you know how unbelievable it is that this stunning collaboration hasn’t happened before. Werthman’s instrumentals and Baje’s signature delivery combine for a cool yet captivating listen.

Yet our conversation took a different turn, from focusing on turning 30 to forming a record label, Baje and Jesse dish on the year to come and ruminate on when to call it quits. In the process, they laugh, get serious and discuss their modest hopes along the way.”

The idiom “jump the shark” is a meme of sorts, as the term – begun as a Hollywood colloquialism, once taken to the internet became a solidly defined descriptor of the moment when something good goes bad. But proper memes these days involve video, static or animated images.

The Singing Shark is probably the most widespread shark meme, and it’s a great example of one that has spread beyond its original incarnation. Read the rest of this entry »
